Dino Plasmati is a jazz guitarist, composer and Big Band conductor.
He was born in Matera on 9th July 1972. He got the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Literature at the University of Bari and got his Diploma in Guitar at the Conservatory “E.R Duni” in Matera. He started playing when he was 9 and in 1987 he founded his first band, called Meridiana Group. They were engaged on several tours all over Italy and Europe and recorded four CDs all with Dino’s original compositions and arrangements.
He improved his technique attending the Berklee College of Music in Perugia in 1989, under the guidance of Jim Kelly and Donovan Mixon, and taking part in several master classes with various teachers as Pat Matheny (Ravenna 2003) and Larry Blank with whom studied Composition and Arrangement. In 1992 he has been awarded as the Best Young Jazz Talent at the Eddie Lang Jazz Fest in Monteroduni.
A refined and versatile musician, Dino performed in many different bands and orchestras acquiring more and more experience thus becoming one of the most accomplished guitarists on the Italian jazz scene.

Has played in New York, Germany, Greece, Holland, Portugal, England, Wales, Ireland, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Argentina. His music is often used in TV series and shows, broadcasted also by Italian TV channes like RAI and SKY, documentaries, short films, CD ROMs and DVDs for art exhibitions and tourism (Viaggio nelle terre dei Lucani, Omaggio a Giacomo Manzù, Le terre del silenzio, Matera 2 luglio, Lo scheletro Massiccio).
National and international newspapers, specialized magazines and jazz websites showed their interest for this talented Italian musician, noteworthy are Corriere della Sera, Repubblica, Il Giorno, Jazz Hot!, Chitarre, Guitar Club, Ritmo, Tutto Chitarre, Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, Jazzit!, Jazzitalia, Liberalia, Jazz Convention, All About Jazz, Il Secolo XIX, Il Giornale, Il Sole 24 Ore. Some of those even dedicated a deep focus on his music as did AXE Magazine on 2009 when his latest CD “Interactions” was released by Emarcy/Universal.
Dino is the sole Artistic Director of the jazz association MIFAJAZZ born in 2006 and grown thanks to the work of many musicians and supporting friends. Since 2009 they have been holding the MIFAJazz BIG BAND FESTIVAL, an international gathering of jazz orchestras and marching bands featuring also the Lucanian Jazz Project (LJP) big band in which Dino plays both roles of conductor and guitarist. At the moment he’s carrying out the following projects: OPEN TRIO with the music of his Cd “Interactions” Emarcy/UNIVERSAL, AROUND SINATRA with LJP big band, an homage to Mr "Ol' Blue Eyes"; VIAGGIO NELLE TERRE DEI LUCANI original compositions inspired by the landscapes of Basilicata, Dino’s native region and finally THE ORGAN TRIO with guests.

He teaches guitar at middle school “G.Pascoli” in Matera and History of Jazz Music at the St. Louis College of Music of Rome. He also wrote a book on Egidio R. Duni-Duny, an Italian musician and composer born in Matera who worked in Italy , France and London and played a key role in the development of the Comédie mêlée d'ariettes in the 18th century.
Dino collaborates with the Italian web site Jazz Convention as musical expert and reviewer.

Intraprende lo studio della chitarra già all'età di nove anni. Consegue diploma di chitarra presso il Conservatorio E.R.Duni di Matera e Laurea in Lettere presso l'Università degli studi di Bari.
La sua attività professionale inizia nel 1987 con la partecipazione ai primi Jazz Festival Italiani.
Nell'89 si perfeziona al Berklee College of Music a Perugia, ammesso a frequentare il livello superiore di studio sotto la guida di Jim Kelly e Donovan Mixon; tra i suoi mentori-didatti Pat Metheny (2003 -Ravenna), e il leggendario Pat Martino (2014 Filadelphia-USA). Approfondisce lo studio della Composizione con diversi insegnanti e partecipa a numerose Master Classes (Pat Metheny, Bobby Watson, Curtis Lundy, Eric Kennedy, Steve Grossman, Jack Walrath, Larry Blank). Nel 1994 entra a far parte dell’ ORCHESTRA UTOPIA diretta da Bruno Tommaso con la quale incide dischi e suona nei piuÌ€ importanti Jazz Festivals italiani. Insegnante di chitarra jazz e muisca d'insieme in vari istituti privati e docente titolare di chitarra presso L'IC “G.Pascoli” di Matera.

Ha insegnato chitarra al Liceo Musicale “T.Stigliani” di Matera nell'a.s.2013/2014.
Ha insegnato Chitarra Jazz presso il Conservatorio di Musica “G.da Venosa” di Potenza nell'A.A. 2017 e presso il Conservatorio "A.Corelli" di Messina nell'A.A. 2021/2022.
Collabora in qualità di critico musicale con la rivista Liberalia, con il portale Jazzitalia e Jazz Convention ed ha collaborato anche con la rivista Jazzit .
E’ direttore artistico del Festival Internazionale “MIFAJAZZ Big Band” organizzato dall’Associazione Jazzistica Materana MiFaJazz.
Dino è un EASTMAN GUITAR ARTIST, testimonial in Europa per la nota fabbrica americana di chitarre Eastman;
Inoltre è AMBASSADOR degli Schertler Group Amplifier, nota marca svizzera di amplificatori e sistemi audio innovativi e top quality.
